If we were able to see a pie chart of government spending I’m willing to be this item would be a very small slice of that chart. Government employee payroll and benefits, etc. would be a much larger piece. IMHO

The actual handouts to the “needy,” whether or not they are unmarried mothers, are only 1/5 (iirc) of the government spending “for” them. 4/5 goes to the functionaries and functions of the government.

You know, the kind of jobs that impoverished single mothers aspire to and that government is only to happy to provide with make-work measures.

You would also be wrong about the slice of govt. employee payroll and benefits. The big part of the pie is military spending, servicing the national debt, and VA, SS and Medicare costs. I just went to Google and found a site with a fantastic array of(nearly 100) pie charts of govt. spending.

There are approximately 80 social net welfare programs in Ca. which contributes heavily to the overall debt.
