“Conservatives like you had BETTER understand that libertarianism is the path to living morally because it PREVENTS government from prohibiting YOU from living morally.”
True Libertarianism would ALSO PROHIBIT me from putting morality into law....that IS A BIG PROBLEM. If I cannot forbid open homosexuality, drugs, etc. I DO NOT CALL THAT FREEDOM. I call it anarchy and a worthless society. I have NEVER agreed with a libertarian viewpoint that things like prostitution and pornography, etc. are “victimless” crimes.
In a “Libertarian” world I (my children and their children) would have to see and be exposed to open unimpeded vice of all kinds.....NO THANK YOU! The slime readily available on the internet is testament to that. In a “Libertarian” world it would be on every street corner and I could do nothing to stop it by law.
Libertarianism IS NOT the path to a moral society. Of course, excessive government is not either.
I want a Puritan America, not a decadent red light Europe.
Amen!
Also, please see my post 705 on this thread. I think one of the biggest advantages to Sarah Palin is that she can unite the SoCons and MilCons, and while she is not a libertarian, she has enough leanings in that direction that she won't alienate the libertarians as much as a person perceived as being primarily a Christian conservative.
That's not necessarily saying I want Sarah Palin as president, but I do want someone who can win support from all three “legs” of the Republican stool.
