Vlad, along with two neighboring Christian Kings-an Albanian and a Serbian- that I can’t recall, are highly underrated for their roles as gatekeepers for the West during that century. Was Vlad brutal? Yup. Were the Turks just as brutal? Yup. He fought fire with fire.
