Truthfully, in one of the best marriages I know, they agreed that when the wife was having her baby that the husband would stay away until she called for a pick up. Several very good reasons:

1) Men being around their wives giving birth is a big cause of psychological impotence in husbands. Not just because of the grossness of giving birth, but out of guilt for causing their wife such pain.

2) There is not a dang thing husbands can do that is helpful, and after giving birth most women are not feeling terribly attractive: they are exhausted, sore as heck, feeling really dirty, hair is matted and askew, etc.

3) Mothers and babies often require “after birth medical maintenance”, usually minor, but they want that taken care of before anything else.

4) By the time she calls for a pick up, she is ready to go, she and the baby look much better, and the priority is getting home, making the birth notifications to family and friends, and getting all the baby preparations and routines going smoothly. And finally getting a good, long, exhausted sleep in her own bed.

Can’t agree more...

My wife and I had six kids and four were born before the big push to have dad in there to experience it....sat in the waiting room until it was over and everybody got cleaned up and fingers and toes counted....it was a beautiful thing...cigars passed around... Happy dads wanting to see their new norms...

The last two were basically not a wonderful experience....my wife had a very bad reaction to some pain medication and it was ugly...last one was a C-Section and pretty dang gross...

That's not what McAuliffe did though, was it? If the answer is "No," then I have to admit I don't quite understand the purpose of your post. You're not trying to defend The Punk's actions, are you?

Instead of "getting home," he took her and the newborn to a DemocRAT fund raiser. What a guy! Husband of the year! Father of the year! NOT! OK, maybe DemocRAT of the year...
