The Movie Reviews

"Silver Linings Playbook" with Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris
Tucker, Julia Stiles, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham

2012, Rated R for language, sexual content, and nudity, 122 minutes

A man (Cooper) is released after he has spent four years in an asylum for attacking his wife's lover after
walking in on them showering together. He is bipolar, and he loses control of himself at inopportune times.
His wife has a restraining order and still fears him, but he is convinced that she still loves him and wants to
get back together. He meets a woman as damaged as he is (Lawrence), and he thinks that by helping her
with her project, entering a dance contest, he will show his estranged wife that he is all right. But the best
laid plans often go awry. It was a bit difficult to watch in the first scenes, but it got better, and we gave it
  ★★★★

"Red Faction: Origins" with Robert Patrick, Tamzin Merchant, Brian J. Smith, Kate Vernon, Sarah Brown,
Danielle Nicolet, Devon Graye, Gordon Kennedy, Gareth David-Lloyd, Tamer Hassan

2011, Not Rated, 93 minutes

Based on a video game, this story about the colonists on Mars who after 300 years of Earth oppression,
finally achieve their independence. But there are three factions, none of which trusts the other two, and one
of them attempts to trick the others to fight and kill each other off. It is presented as an interesting story
about the lives of the characters, and while it wasn't Shakespeare, it wasn't all that hard on the eyes. We
gave it   ★★★
