So that hugh hole in his side had no effect on life or death, or was that from artificial respiration?
The hole in the side was his last best hope of living. The E/R doctors would have decided at some point that their efforts to keep him alive were not bearing fruit, so they cut the hole in him, and reached in and took his heart in hand and manually pumped it. When THAT failed, the E/R doctor looked at the clock, and said, “HE’S DEAD JIM.”
The hole in his side was made by the surgeons/autopsy people, or so I heard. And I live here in Boston.
