The parentheses in the CSS-xhtml FR source are causing problems with the weird character number. He may/may not have a space between the 50 and the ¢ which that character is filling-in, somehow. Is Alt+0162 xhtml for a CSS-based page?

Alt+0162 just enables a character on an ASCII code map.
