While Senator Joe Manchin decides whether to reintroduce his failed background checks bill, other lawmakers are busy passing new gun measures that decrease rather than increase regulation.
In Arizona, where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot a little over two years ago in a rampage that left six people dead, including a federal judge, the legislature and the governor have devoted themselves to protecting the firearm supply.
On Monday, Gov. Jan Brewer signed two gun laws. One would forbid cities and counties from destroying weapons they obtained through gun-buyback programs. Instead, they must resell them so that guns purchased by police departments to get them off the streets will then be put right back on the streets.
Ms. Brewer and other supporters of this brilliant bit of lawmaking say they think local governments should be able to make money off the guns. The true reason was more honestly stated in a letter from the National Rifle Association on April 22 that said this measure would ensure that taxpayer resources are not utilized to pursue a political agenda of destroying firearms.

Why the hell does it always come down to money with the Feds. With this mindset i guess the next question is what else can the Feds deem seizable so they can steal it from you and sell it for a profit. Not setting a good precedent here folks.
I’m a poster at other forums, including sports forums and you are so correct in that assessment.
The big one I keep hearing is “you don’t need one” and it’s that mentality that drove me out of that state 21 years ago.
What I can tell any outsider is NY state is like any other state dominated by a large metro area, a sea of red smothered by a few blue bullies. NY can be divided into three sections, the city, Western NY and North/Central and two of those sections would be decidedly Red. Same with Maryland, PA and soon to be Virginia. If you take the DC metro out of VA and MD, you have a pretty Red voting block.

A little honesty here, Ms. Brewer. Where is the money that’s made off the guns owing to go and will it ultimately end up in the pockets of politicians?
I think we already know the answer...

The money goes into the public treasury. It reduces the tax burden a bit.
It is insane to destroy valuable property to make political propaganda.
The writer from the NYT thinks it is insane to save money, because she has a delusional view of the universe.
Well Brewer better get her jackass white-haired U.S. Senator in line with Arizona wishes.
One of the comments references the Arizona homicide rate of 5.5 murders per 100,000.
The comment that follows THAT -- from someone in Philadelphia -- is, "My dad moved to AZ after retirement. He never owned a gun in his life, but now has one. Will I ever visit him in AZ? Heck no.".
According to Wikipedia, the homicide rate in NYC is 6.4 murders per 100,000 and Philadelphia's is 19.6 per 100,000. (I'm also pretty sure that NYC's homicide rate doesn't include all the souls who were killed on 9/11. Otherwise, it would be much higher.)
It's been quite a few years since I attended grade school, but I think I learned that 6.4 and 19.6 are both larger than 5.5. Do they still teach math in public schools?
It's not just New York, and as is often said -- liberalism is a mental disorder.

As usual the Lib media commentator omits an inconvient truth.
The confiscated guns are going to be sold to a licnsed gun dealer. The Police Departments typically make a deal with a gun dealer in which the police get the new guns that they want and the dealer gives the police a discount for their old gun plus the inventory of the polices confiscated firearms.
So all of the confiscated fire arms will be resold by a licensed fire arms dealer and will only be sold after a background check. Isnt that just what Senator Joe Manchin and the Libs think is the answer to all of the problems of firearms.
If background checks will keep firearms out of the hands of bad people whats the problem of confiscated firearms being sold after a mandatory background check? Or is the problem really that Libs dont want honest law abiding Americans to have firearms period?
>>legislators are incompetent at best and corrupt at worst.<<
Unwittingly, “Jonathan” hits the nail on the end, even though he was taking a swipe at Gov. Brewer and AZ state legislators.
Judging by legislation and comments, I am convinced that stupidity and insanity are prerequisites for being a politician.
