I interviewed a half dozen blacks from FAMU. (They were worthless, but that’s a different story.) I had to explain why I would not hire each candidate, which I did with approximatliy three pages each. I was instructed to hire one, regardless. I went to the company president and dragged the contracts manager with me. I pointed out the contract which required these jobs be done by x date. I explained that none of the candidates could do those jobs regardless of how long they were given. The president reluctantly allowed me to hire the two experienced candidates. (As I recall, they had to integrate test equipment into a single test stand and write the software to automate the testing. That’s not something you give to even a good student just out of school.)
