Bottoms Up, Lame Duck
NYT ^ | 30 April 2013 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 05/01/2013 6:44:02 AM PDT by Rummyfan

During the 2012 campaign, the president and his top advisers liked to make the argument that if he was re-elected, the “fever” would break. Washington would no longer be the graveyard of progress, the crypt of consensus. Once dystopian Republicans accepted that Obama was not running again, they would start cooperating with him.

....

Actually, it is his job to get them to behave. The job of the former community organizer and self-styled uniter is to somehow get this dunderheaded Congress, which is mind-bendingly awful, to do the stuff he wants them to do. It’s called leadership.

He still thinks he’ll do his thing from the balcony and everyone else will follow along below. That’s not how it works.

How can the president star in a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner satirical film pretending to be Daniel Day-Lewis playing Barack Obama in Steven Spielberg’s movie “Obama,” and not have absorbed the lessons of “Lincoln”?

I would have puked my guts out had I seen this!

It is important that the Republicans and conservatives impress the meme that Obama is a “lame duck”, early and often in their public debates, as in Washington, this perception soon becomes self fulfilling.

That is, it starts to strongly undermine his present power, the more and more people start thinking about “post-Obama” America. And any stumble he makes is magnified.

It also means that candidates start to both disassociate themselves with him, and to speak out more against his policies.

Obama is incapable of it. Unlike a Lyndon Johnson who was happy to get down and dirty with the wheeling and dealing required to get a bill past, Obama feels he is so far above congress that to stoop to the level of a mere "wheeler and dealer" would be an insult. He views himself as a Greek God who descends from the heavens and gives his declaration and then ascends once more to leave the mere mortals to hash out the details.

‘Lame duck’ is good and is being repeated. I liked ‘a moribund presidency’ that I saw in the Washington Post yesterday. It REALLY cheered me up.

It's the job of the Legislative branch to tell the Executive to "Get thou to the Nether Regions" when appropriate. It's called "checks and balances".

After Syria, Obama discussed another issue where he came across like a frustrated witness to history, rather than shaper of it.

The Limbaugh theorem illustrated. Thanks Mo.

He also fancies himself as an autocrat who dictates to all that they WILL do thus and so.
The press falls over themselves supporting it and denigrating the opposition but LO! it wears thin with larger and larger numbers of folks. Hopefully the House will thwart his “agenda” so America wins.

That is not at all the president's job or Obama's job. The president's job is to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States - as described in Article II of the Constitution and within the limits of the enumerated powers, of the Bill of Rights, and of the other limits on government power specified in the rest of the Constitution including the amendments. Obama's job is to maintain at least a pretense of respecting parts of the Constitution that if violated could trigger a second civil war. He is permitted to lead, and a real president is expected to lead, but only in directions authorized by the Constitution.

Even if "90% of Americans" want to infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms, the president's job is still to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to get Congress to "do stuff" that violates the Constitution. I'm glad that Obama doesn't listen to Maureen Dowd any more than the rest of us do.

He doesn’t see himself as a savior, above it all.
He is a playground bully, a punk and lightweight who has a gang of bullies to do his enforcing.
A spoiled brat who gets his way or cries “racism” instead of “Mommy”.

There is no magic to the Imposter.

You though Jimmma and Billy-Boy would never go away?
Wait until post-Obama. They Moochers-in-Chief will be hustling for attention everywhere.

He’s no lame duck. He’ll continue issuing EOs at every turn. Don’t kid yourself he won’t attempt a third run or lifetime stint. Even if he is gone in ‘16, he has made enough appointments to head of departments to ensure his legacy continues.
