It’s natural after an attack such as the Boston Marathon bombings to want to ratchet up security, but Americans are starting on a “slippery slope” when they start allowing more cameras in public places, claims Sen. Rand Paul. …

Paul clarified that he has no problem with private businesses putting cameras outside their buildings to protect their property. But government, he argued, has enormous power that can be abused. …

we need to have a different author write a new book on a projected freaky ultra oppressive communist/islamist state future . 1984 was long ago . It came and went . Nothing happened . To still refer to it is dumb

When Orwell published '1984' it was '1948'. The title is an anagram. He's writing not about the future but the present.

Someone needs to tell him that we had the intrusiveness of “Nineteen Eighty-Four” (the name of the book) by the year 1984.

And Big Brother didn’t stop there, but has gone far beyond Orwell, for all practical purposes having its own “Moore’s Law”, in which, like computing power, intrusive, nanny state government doubles every 18 months.

As far as “slippery slopes” go, we are like Yuichiro Miura, “The Man Who Skied Down Everest”, about halfway down, when he lost control and started to tumble head over heels.

I disagree very much with Rand Paul’s anti-Israel position and on other matters, but he’s right about invasions of privacy. Each of you can learn more about camera systems and mount those around our homes and properties, though, without violating your neighbors’ privacy (in any way, in the moral sense). You can use those with auto-uploads to remote servers to help protect your own rights.

Cameras are like guns:

After the gummint gets tons of ‘em what is the NEXT step?

To limit your use of YOUR camera.

Sounds silly NOW, but just wait.

Just WAIT.
