My teenage daughters are fans, too. I encourage them to imitate Taylor Swift’s work ethic, but not her relationship history.

My 15-year-old is better looking and has a better voice, but she doesn’t have the drive! (And doesn’t write songs.) You’d think being paid cash for playing guitar at Spanish church events would be a motivator, but no. I still have to say, “You’re doing this whether you want to or not,” when I need a guitarist. Then she gets 20 or 30 dollars for an hour, and she’s all excited, but the slacker urge is so strong ...

My youngest has that slacker streak too. I guess it takes being hungry for some people.

Whenever I saw some daylight as a kid, I’d run with it.
