RE: Here’s my solution: facilities should have a third bathroom for gay men, gay women and gay or straight transgenders. It makes perfect sense. The gay guys will NOT be looking at the lesbians. The lesbians will likewise NOT be looking at the gay men.

Can I pretend to be gay so that I can go to the women’s lockers and ogle at them? I promise to be in “professional mode”. :)

It’ll probably evolve to unisex facilities with water closets only in individual enclosures. The old fashioned urinal will go by the boards.

Your comment hits the nail on the head. When sexuality is divorced from biology you can never really know what a persons true desires are. Why shouldn’t you be allowed into the women’s locker room (if you were in fact a sports reporter) and gay.

In essence the guy on Geraldo was saying “yeah, I like to have sex with men, but so what. I should be allowed to go into men’s locker rooms anyway.” And your argument would hold up under those premises. “yeah, I’m a gay man. I should be allowed to go into the female’s locker room because I’m obviously NOT going to be ogling them.” So basically what he was saying was - “regardless of sexual orientation I should be allowed to go wherever I want.”

The logical extension of that position would be..”yeah, I’m a straight male, but that shouldn’t effect whether or not I’m allowed into the women’s locker room. Because as you point out, you’ll be in “professional mode”!

Basically this guy was saying that he should be allowed a privilege that NOBODY else is allowed. He’s asking for special rights, above and beyond the accepted norm. There is only two responses to that demand: NO, or O.K. then everyone can go anywhere they want to, whenever because we should all just trust the individual’s moral character and tell ourselves they are in “professional mode”.
