I’ve thought about experimenting with kevlar air bags to make bullet proofing.

You can buy kevlar cloth. it's expensive - about $20/yard, but cheaper than buying airbags. Air bag active ingredient is sodium azide. When dissolved and mixed with any soluble lead salt will precipitate lead azide which can be used in primers and detonators.
