They are astounding rifles with great triggers, I have two hex receivers one from 1894, and they are both superb weapons. The Finns took a peasant’s arm and made it into a fine robust battle rifle that the snobs in this country mistakenly malign. At the range yesterday the guy next to me had a M-44 and it shot 10” off till I mentioned deploy the bayonet, he thought I was a genius when it shot to point of aim.

Ah, the M44. If you want to salivate over a truly unique gun, check out this Finnish capture M44. There were vanishingly few of those. I wish a had a couple grand so I could get in on the fun.

Almost all M39s have hex recievers. If you ever see a round one they are worth $$$$. Mine has a '42 Valmet barrel on an 1896 Ishzevsk hex receiver. I think the days of anti-Mosin snobbery are over. The last gun show I attended I must have met fifty guys searching for Mosins. They are awesome.
