Dems don’t even have a serious candidate in the hopper to face Walker in ‘14. Barrett would have to be nuts to run for a 3rd consecutive time. Falk (the Madison Moonbat) might try, but she’d fare even worse than Barrett (couldn’t beat him in the Dem primary). Hell, since the Dems had success with Butch Tammy, they could run “her” without any fuss. Tams lucked out because she faced a tired, has-been who hadn’t run a race in 14 years. Just another establishment candidate who blew it (while the GOPe criticizes the Tea Partiers, who lost fewer races). Ultimately, Ryan should’ve run for the Senate. He did himself no favors agreeing to run with the sure-lose Socialist RINO Willard.
As for Kasich, he’ll probably win again if the Dems run some Cleveland-based Dem hack. Scott is likely in the most trouble in FL. We’d probably be better off if he decided to retire and got a fresh face to run. I can’t believe FL Dems would seriously just hand their nomination over to the Orange Menace. He’s going to have a helluva time spinning and contorting himself to explain away all his flipfloppery.
Cleveland-based hack you say? Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerarld has already announced against Kasich.
Sec of State had often been considered an office for senior members of the party who had previously run (and lost) for President. You’ve had John C. Calhoun, Daniel Webster, Lewis Cass, William Seward, James Blaine, William Jennings Bryan, Charles Evans Hughes in the past. Others were former Senators/Governors, political advisors. Of Dubya’s two SoS’s, one was military (Powell), the other was the National Security Advisor (Rice), who might’ve been more suited for Defense Secretary.
Zero returned to the old style of paying off two Presidential has-beens (Hillary & Kerry). The last such “payoff” was in 1921 when President Harding went with Charles Evans Hughes (who lost in 1916). Hughes’s bailiwick wasn’t diplomacy, but judicial, as he had previously been a Supreme Court Justice (and was ex-NY Governor).
Posts like Energy are nothing-burger posts (there shouldn’t even BE such a post — it should all be folded under Commerce or Interior). In Palin’s capacity as AK Governor, she did have to deal with other countries, namely both Canada and Russia, as those were “border states.” No other state Governor has such a responsibility. I think she’d make a fine Secretary of State.
That’s the hack I was referring to.
