In November, one of the oldest condors in Central California died from lead poisoning after being found with tiny bullet fragments and a .22-caliber slug in his gullet that he apparently swallowed with a mouthful of meat.
The 9-year-old giant was one of the earliest released in a condor recovery program along the Big Sur coast. His death -- and the recent death of a golden eagle near Sacramento -- are being highlighted by health and environmental groups who want California to become the first state to impose a statewide ban on the use of lead bullets for hunting.

Kookiefornia lead-ammo-banning Nanny State PING!
So, depleated uranium would be ok?
Depleted uranium? Steel Carbide?
It died from LEAD POISONING because that’s what the SOCIALIST DEMOCRATIC FRAUDS wanted it to die from.
Or a Green sustainable wind mill?/s
Bull.... I don't believe this for one second.
He was 9 years old....just how long do Condors live?
BS!!!
Too long.
The California cnodor can live up to 60 years if it is able to reach adulthood. Humans are its major obstacle to reaching adulthood.
For comparison: its cousin, the Andean Condor can live even longer up to 70 years old.
But with the Kali Kommi Enviro wackos interfering with the birds I bet they’d have to be in captivity to live their natural life span.
Having seen first hand the outright lies going on for other causes, I do not believe this for a second. Did the gun grabbers go place contaminated meat and then kill the condor to discover this?
So if I eat a quail or a wild turkey I shot and I swallow a lead shot pellet or two am I gonna die? How do you get lead poisoning anyway? I have heard the term lead poisoning all my life but don’t know how you get it.
“just how long do Condors live?”
9 yrs apparently
Assembly Bill 821 (AB821), was passed by the California Legislature in 2007 which eliminated all lead bullets in the Condor’s domain. Now they want to ban lead bullets everywhere after they tell us the Condor’s are getting their lead from dead varmints. Lead generally is not dangerous unless it is ground up into a powder. It does not readily decompose. A study indicated that after the original ban, lead in local animals did not significantly reduce and in some cases actually increased. California has huge deposits of natural occurring lead and mercury.
Lead poisoning takes time to do its damage. The danger from one piece and ingested would be minimal during the few hours it takes to pass.
You are right. The wackos are outright lying on this one.
Why doesn't the ban apply to Obama's army and Federal, state enforcement agencies?
the eco windmills take out far more birds in general tha a stray lead pellet in meat. let them take downb all the wind turbines if they are really serious at helping save the lives of birds.
Well, one of these criminal (female) bureaucrats did once plant endangered animal hairs somewhere to add to the "endangered species" list, in an area where it never existed.
Tried and convicted.
So yeah.
Not "unprecedented."
