Two missiles have been fired at a Russian passenger plane flying over Syria, according to Russian media.
About 160 people were on board the charter aircraft at the time of the attack, the origin of which remains unknown, a source told the Interfax news agency.
An unnamed source is understood to have said: "Syrian (officials) informed us that on Monday morning, unidentified forces launched two ground-to-air missiles which exploded in the air very close to a civilian aircraft belonging to a Russian airline."

Let’s see... chartered Russian aircraft, flying over Syria, shot at by 2 missiles AND missed (airliners carry counter-measures?). Sounds like someone had inside info that asshat assad was being given safe haven.
I’m becoming convinced that the best thing that could happen to the Middle East is for Russia’s Putin to suddenly fly down to Syria with 25,000 c rack Russian troops and all their gear. Let Putin battle the al qaeda CIA goons for a while.
There was a crawler on FNC this am about Assad dodging an attempt on his life, but nothing about due to flight over Syria.

Well, all of us know all the radar on the ground was ~recently installed by Putin. I’m sure it overlooks certain craft when instructed. So that leaves men with rockets.
A friend had flown on Aeroflot or similar in Kazakhstan and said the only passengers NOT smoking on the flight were the dogs.
And the dogs were chewing new hot spots!
I always wondered about my flights on Qatar from Vienna to Doha, on my way to Cebu.
It seems that they would have been over the thick and hot spots of the middle east.
