It's been six month since one of the most destructive natural since Hurricane Katrina hit the eastern seaboard, and while there's been a good deal of progress on cleanup and rebuilding, there are still thousands of displaced people and closed businesses waiting for the rebuilding phase to pick up the pace:
Tens of thousands of people remain homeless. Housing, business, tourism and coastal protection all remain major issues with the summer vacation and hurricane seasons almost here again.
By many measures, the recovery from Sandy, which struck Oct. 29, has been slow. From Maryland to New Hampshire, the National Hurricane Center attributes 72 deaths directly to Sandy and 87 others indirectly from causes such as hypothermia due to power outages, carbon monoxide poisoning and accidents during cleanup efforts, for a total of 159.
Throughout the region, many businesses are still shuttered, and an already-tight rental market has become even more so because of the destruction of thousands of units and the crush of displaced storm victims looking to rent the ones that survived.
But insurance companies have not paid out all that many homeowners expected. Municipalities are borrowing tens of millions of dollars to keep the lights on, the fire trucks running and the police stations staffed, waiting for reimbursement from the federal government for storm expenditures they had to fund out of pocket.
Via Meadia reminded us over the weekend that the situation would no doubt be an ongoing national disaster of epic and unforgivable proportions were a certain someone still in the White House — it’s really been just too kind of the media to spare us from so many of these dreadful stories of personal woe and bureaucratic inefficiency — but MSNBC did do a six-month special this morning with New Jersey Governor Christie Christie, in which he affirmed that oh, hell no does he regret his post-Sandy schmoozefest with Obama because no way, no how was any of it was about presidential politics:
Six months after superstorm Sandy ravaged New Jersey, Gov. Chris Christie said he has no regrets on working with President Barack Obama on his states recoverydespite political blowback.
The president has kept every promise he made, the Republican governor said on Morning Joe Monday from Asbury Park, N.J. Everybody knows I have about 95% level of disagreement with Barack Obama on principle and philosophy, but the fact is we have a job to do. What people expect from people they elect is to do their jobs.
Thats why they hate Washington so much. They hate Washington because people dont care, many of them, they dont care about getting the job done, he said. They care about arguing with each other and being right. The presidents guilty of that, the Congress is guilty of that.
Obama wouldn’t lie, would he?
Who is this chris christie? Never heard of ‘em.
Imagine if Bush had let people live like this for 6 months?
Christie for POTUS!
When HELL freezes over....
You just watch.
He’ll be the next “McCain”
No thanks.
>Christie for POTUS!<
And Jeb Bush!
I think I’ll plan a vacation to Iceland in November of 2016.
The election is over with you tub of crap, you can back it down now.
Yup. I checked. It’s written right there in the constitution. The federal government is responsible for all acts of God, therefore shall make whole any state, business or person suffering damage of any kind from storm, rain, wind, flood, earthquake, drought or fire. But we’re going tax you for the rain you receive, even if you don’t. Next up: tax the air you breathe (even if you don’t). It costs plenty to keep it clean for you y’know. It’s all for the children.
Kick him to the curb. He’s gone over to the dark side
Stay away from the shore RINO. you’re ripe for harpooning.
“You just watch.
Hell be the next McCain
No thanks.”
Nope. McCain already pee’d on that path. I voted for McCain, figuring he was better than Obama. I now realize the right wing of the communist party is still the communist party. If Christie, by some tragic turn of events, is the nominee. I’ll stay home and get drunk.
I’ll never vote Christie, ever. Christie will likely change parties.
Does praising the promises of Satan bring one closer to Christ?
I think he, Reggie and Obama have special get togethers to pack something or other.
I agree. Fusion ticket as Hillary!’s VP in 2016.
I have friends who live in Jersey. I have friends with family and other connections in Jersey. They’re screaming bloody murder over the pathetic response by Obama. Especially after Donna Brazile’s article correcting the record on Bush’s response to Katrina.
... and I'm keeping mine, right now. -CC
” I think Ill plan a vacation to Iceland in November of 2016.”
Yeah, and STAY there : )
Screw that fat POS. His asinine praise of Zippy prior to the election may have cost us the chance to finally be rid of the Kenyan.
Humpty Dumpty Krispie Kreme Christy, the walking lardass heartattack waiting to happen, is as much democrat as any democrat in America. Your typical, Obama-asskissing RINO that could only get elected as a republican in democrat-controlled states. Any Red State would laugh him out of the primaries. The reason he won in NJ is because liberal democrats love the walking donut.
He’s the Tony Soprano of NJ politicians.
He’s even starting to resemble Fat Tony more and more each day.
What can I say? Only New Jersey deserves a Gov like this.
