There are times when I really enjoy the Russian approach to Islamic terrorism.
Many years ago, several American hostages were taken in Beirut, Lebanon, and held for a great length of time while Washington dithered. Having what they thought of as success in this, the kidnappers decided to kidnap four Russians.
Bad idea. The Russians immediately dispatched several stone killers, and the first thing they did was to “counter-kidnap” the spiritual leader of the group responsible. And then send a few small pieces of him by courier to the kidnapper group, with promises of more pieces, later.
The kidnappers response was to not only release the Russian hostages, but to drive them to the gates of the Russian embassy, while begging them to please tell the other Russians to “stop cutting.”
Russians seem to have a good grasp of reality, untempered with foolish sentiment, at times.
