Report: Obama Spent Twice as Much Time on Vacation/Golf as Economy
by Wynton Hall 28 Apr 2013, 4:00 PM PDT
According to a new report by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI), President Barack Obama has spent over twice as many hours on vacation and golf (976 hours) as he has in economic meetings of any kind (474.4 hours).
The report, Presidential Calendar: A Time-Based Analysis, used the official White House calendar, Politicos comprehensive presidential calendar, and media reports through March 31, 2013 to calculate its results.
GAIs findings may actually understate Obamas recreational hours.
Last year, Obama told CBS News that playing golf is the only time that for six hours, I'm outside." But instead of six hours, GAI counted a round of golf as taking just four hours. Likewise, for presidential vacation hours, researchers attributed just six hours of any day of vacation to leisure activity.
Like most people, presidents still do work while on vacation, said GAI President Peter Schweizer. So we really went out of our way to fairly and accurately reflect how the president spends his time.
The study applied a similarly generous assessment to Obamas time spent in economic meetings by counting anything on the official White House calendar even remotely related to the economy as an economic meeting. For example, Obama meets with Cabinet secretaries and Obama has lunch with four CEOs counted as economic meetings.
GAIs new report dovetails with its presidential calendar analysis last July that found Obama devotes little time to economic meetings.
Asked whether the latest numbers paint a negative portrait of presidential economic leadership, Schweizer says that is for others to decide.

Given the federal government’s constitutionally-limited powers, the power to regulate intrastate postal services (Clause 7 of Section 8 of Article I) arguably being about half the list, Obama should be spending even more hours on golf courses than he already does.
In other words, military issues aside, the Founding States had envisioned all presidents to arguably be lame-duck presidents by design where their mostly nonexistent powers to influence local and state issues are concerned.
In fact, Constitution-ignorant voters are concerned about who the president is, imo, only because of the perceived powers of the Oval Office which the corrupt media, including Obama guard Fx News has helped to foster. After all, given the Electoral College, the Founders had arguably intended for citizens to have to guess who the current president is, not that they’d really care. So the next time that you hear Fx News referring to the Oval Office as the most powerful office in the land, you now know better.
If only Valerie Jarrett would take up a hobby.
Obama is just a puppet, and a mouthpiece for the people really calling the shots. The people calling the shots only need him in front of the teleprompter, and giving speeches.
Obama could be away from the White House and playing games 100% of the time, and the people doing the damage to the country will continue as if Obama never existed.
I actually would not mind and approve a President taking lots of vacation time IF he was doing a good job! Well, if you take that into consideration, Obama should not be taking any vacations at all!
Breitbart exaggerates. There is no way that Obama has spent over 100 hrs on the economy throughout his entire life. The only economic life lesson he had received prior to becoming President came from his teenage years. He learned that he could win friends by stealing ice cream from his employer and ‘redistributing’ it.
I agree. The more Obama spends golfing the better.
He should take a 3 year European vacation. His daily Whitehouse schedule is already light!
And yet, if he could run again people would vote him back in...America gone wrong.
he’s focused...”like a laser”.
