Well.....in the 19th century ships of both the British & American navies came calling, each demanding port rights and that Hawaii fly their flag as a goodwill gesture. The King’s counselors advised combining the Union Jack with the Stars & Stripes, and today’s Hawaiian state flag is the result.
But there’s some serious attitude going on in the Islands. Haoles do not go out at night, I have heard, and it’s not because that’s when the statues walk.

Baloney. Like any other state(or city) there are areas to avoid at night but Hawaii is more no more dangerous than the others.
