Politicians are only with the constituents when they are campaigning. Once in office, if they are not with the good old boys program promises get made and higher positions are given to bring them into line.
The problem here are the entrenched incumbents who know the ropes and are happy to show them to the rookies. Get with the lobbyists and then get back to us. Rubio took the bait. I want nothing to do with Rubio. As far as I’m concerned he’s done.
You make a good point. The idea of electing 1/3 of senators every 2 years is a cause of the problem because the “elder statesmen” are there to teach the newcomers the ropes. Limit them to one term and clean out the whole next of vipers every 6 years. Start off with a brand new body every 6 years.
Again, don’t blame the lobbyists. He began his campaign by lying, saying that his parents were Cuban exiles.
