Isn’t this a bit too neatly tied up? If they hadn’t told him they were the bombers, his 911 about a car hijacking wouldn’t have gotten
much attention that night.

But they told him (although they were on the run); and he was in a position to report them to the police, along with the make and license of the car?

Or is there more to it somehow?

I admit, I’m thinking along the same lines as you. It just is way too linear for me. My spidey senses were all over this one the night this all unfolded.
