Obamacares so-called contraceptive mandate has been much in the news. But much of what the administration calls contraception is actually abortion.
Take the copper IUD, for example. It is advertised as a contraceptive device, but even the New York Times, in a front page story about Plan B, admits that it causes early-term abortions. How? By preventing the implantation of a developing embryo in the uterus.
As the flagship paper of the liberal media writes, research suggests that the only other officially approved form of emergency contraception, the copper intrauterine device (also a daily birth control method), can work to prevent pregnancy after an egg has been fertilized.
What we are talking about here is what is known as heavy metal poisoning. The copper ions released by the IUD create a microenvironment hostile to living organisms, including tiny human beings. This is why, to adduce a crude example, fence posts used on modern-day farms are pressure-treated with copper-arsenic. This deadly chemical cocktail kills all the organisms, from bacteria to termites, that attempt to eat into the posts.
Read for yourselves what a handbook called Managing Contraception for Your Pocket has to say: The Copper IUD may be inserted up to the time of implantationabout 5 days after ovulationto prevent pregnancy. Thus, if a woman had unprotected sexual intercourse 3 days before ovulation occurred in that cycle, the IUD could be inserted up to 8 days after intercourse to prevent pregnancy
Note that the authors are clearly all fervent advocates for a full range of anti-pregnancy drugs and devices. When they assert that the copper IUD can be inserted even at the time of implantation and still terminate a pregnancy, they can be taken at their word.
What this means is that our argument against the contraceptive mandate can be strengthened and expanded. The mandate will not only force Catholic employers to pay for abortion-causing drugs like Plan B (the Morning After Pill), it will force them to pay for abortion-causing devices as well. We are not just objecting to drugs that prevent implantation, we are objecting to drugs and devices.
Obamacare actually goes even further. It reaches beyond drugs and devices that prevent implantation to those like the drug, Ella, that cause the death of an already implanted baby. There is strong evidence that Ella, a close analogue to RU-486, can cause an early abortion both before and after implantation.
Our goal is to overturn the Obamacare mandate and, ultimately, to eliminate all taxpayer-funded birth control. Where better to start than with drugs and devices that have been scientifically proven to cause abortions?
By the family planning movements own admission, the copper IUD causes an abortion. No alibi will change that fact.
And Margaret Sanger was a genocidal queen.
Whip out your checkbook, Bammy!
But DON'T touch ours!
Whatever
Hey, that’s my cousin in that picture! No, on closer look, we’re Irish. If only she could see how much like this woman she sounds.
Actually, the definition of the "beginning of pregnancy" has changed many times. In fact, a great many professionals use the end of the last period as the start date for the pregnancy, even though it normally occurs 14 days before ovulation.
The "official" definition, AFAIK, is that of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists from 1972. "Conception is the implantation of the blastocyst." Appealing to old dictionaries or textbooks cannot settle the issue, as there is no particular reason to assume that an old textbook is "right" whereas a new one is "wrong."
What should not be forgotten is that we are not here discussing actual facts, we are discussing the language we use to talk about those facts. IOW, whether to classify "the beginning of pregnancy" as being at implantation or conception is not a scientific issue, it's a linguistic issue. We use words as symbols to map reality for us, but the map is not the territory.
An interesting aspect of defining conception as the start of pregnancy. It means breastfeeding causes abortions. A nursing mother is much less likely to become pregnant, not because she doesn't ovulate so much as because the fertilized ovum is a lot less likely to implant.
The whole argument is similar to that over whether an unborn child is a "person" under the law with civil rights, including a right to life. The term person, in this sense, is a legal and ethical one. As such, science, while it can tell us many things about an unborn baby, is incapable of deciding whether it's a person under the law.
For that matter, science cannot tell us whether women, or black people, or gingers are or should be persons under the law. Science just doesn't deal in "shoulds."
Am so sick of and sickened by these people. Always fixated on death, murder, destruction of life; and various ways to accomplish it.
Okay, these guys are misrepresenting data to support their position. The copper IUD changes the environment in the womb such that there can be no fertilization. It doesn’t kill embryos.
It is suspected from data available that embryonic death is higher in women who use NO BIRTH CONTROL, because the copper IUD is such a optimal sperm killer. Did you know that you only have a 40% chance of becoming pregnant with sex intended to produce a baby? God allows many embryos to naturally die. The only real relevance at this level of birth control, was if the coupling was blessed by the church or not.
Sorry, you are just trying to malign all birth control for the advancement of your argument.
We can agree on one thing though. I don’t think tax payers should be paying for any of this. Obamacare is a system of forcing those of us with a conscience to do things that are unconscionable. This is one of the really obvious facts about government mandated & forced equality when it comes to matters of personal health & beliefs.
Obamacare, in both how it handles “women’s health” and healthcare for the elderly (and eventually, everyone), makes it a tool of Satan, no less than that. It reduces our personal choice, takes our money and does things with it that are against our beliefs, and reduces the quality and availability of healthcare.
The biggest problem I see though, is that we are not going to be able to elect conservatives for a VERY LONG TIME, who can get rid of this junk legislation. I am afraid we are stuck with it for the duration.
You don’t need to put forth lies about my intentions for your argument.
The proven fact medical fact is that in addition to doing what you said it does, the IUD also, in changing the environment, makes the uterus lining inhospitable to the fertilized ovum (the new person).
The only deception here comes from the MD and, to a lesser extent, the killer mom, wanting someone to alleviate her guilt
I didn’t put forth lies. You’re the one claiming copper IUD users are continuously aborting babies. I mean, that is what you stated.
And the research supports nothing like that.
Of course IUDs cause abortion. So do many forms of the pill.
From Pro-Life Facts, on abortion:
Most people dont know the real facts about how contraceptives work. And because of this lack of knowledge, most women are not aware that they may be having BREAKTHROUGH OVULATIONS, and conceiving children that are killed very early in the pregnancy. Women using these contraceptives almost never perceive that they have become pregnant, or that chemicals have killed their tiny baby.
Do people think BO came in and took over a thriving medical care system that was working well?
If so, why do they?
The doctor patient relationship especially among women and their doctors is one sided. There is a lot of lying going on.
Where are husbands and boyfriends on this?
Just because they are silent about it does not mean it is not going on.
The estimate is that through contraception, double the amount of reported abortions have occurred since 1973 (and before, with contraception)
So, about 100,000,000 abortions.
THis is harsh, but until people are willing to do a rudimentary google search, its going to be difficult to fix the health care system.
People think doctors are taking care of them. The numbers point to doctors being. . . well, adding to the abortion problem in a big way.
The average ob gyn is there to take guilt away.
This is a simple google search:
From e-medicine:
With hormonal IUDs, a small amount of progestin or a similar hormone is released into the uterus. These hormones thicken cervical mucus and make it difficult for sperm to enter the cervix. Hormonal IUDs also slow down the growth of the uterine lining, making it inhospitable for fertilized eggs.
If you think doctors and the AMA are pro life and also interested in the health of patients you are not paying attention.
BO took over a very sick medical care system.
How is it going to stop if we cant look at whats going on.
And from Priests for life:
Implantation, of course, refers to the newly-conceived life nestling into the uterus to receive his/her nourishment for the duration of the pregnancy. If contraceptive methods prevent...implantation, it means that they kill that newly conceived child.
