Imagine a Boston Bombing Every Week (Some people don't have to imagine. They just have to remember)

I empathize with the victims of the Boston bombing; they were killed, maimed, injured, and/or forever traumatized only because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As they gathered to compete in or watch the marathon underway, they were -- like all terrorism victims -- the epitome of innocent.

But imagine if this happened again next week, at a pizzeria, killing 15 diners. And again, a week later, on a bus, killing 19 passengers. Then at a discotheque, killing 21 teens. Then at a church, killing 11 worshipers. And so on, with a new bombing terrorizing us almost every week.

Israelis don't have to imagine; they just have to remember. Between 1995 and 2005, each year saw an average of 14 suicide bombings, murdering 66 victims. Two thousand two was the worst year, with 47 bombings that slaughtered 238 people. That's almost one Boston bombing every week. Adjusted for population differences, Israel's victims in 2002 amounted to the equivalent of three 9/11s in one year. And these bombing statistics don't include all of the shootings, stabbings, and other violent attacks by Palestinian extremists during those years.

Most Americans (and Europeans), who enjoy lives of far greater security, can barely recall such attacks, because the incidents usually received only scant and perfunctory media coverage, if they were mentioned at all. A few particularly gruesome attacks (like the Netanya Passover bombing that killed 30 and injured 140) were prominently reported, but most attacks were barely and inconspicuously noted, and many smaller but horrific attacks went entirely unreported.

Of course, whenever Israel responded militarily to these attacks, that was headline news. As WSJ columnist Brett Stephens noted in 2009, "every Palestinian death receives somewhere in the order of 28 times the attention of every Chechen death." When Israel erected its West Bank security barrier, a nonviolent but extremely effective way to prevent Palestinian terrorism, that too was headline news. The fence was even brought before the International Court of Justice in 2004 -- unlike the terrorism that compelled it. Israel surely had other uses for the $2 billion spent to build the barrier, but the number of attacks and fatalities dropped so dramatically after its construction that few Israelis doubted its necessity.

Politically correct posturing has become the norm for politicians and policy makers in the West. It is dangerous self deception. Hard real facts are overlooked since acknowledging them does not fit the accepted feel good theme. The results have been catastrophic.

If this sort of constant barrage were to begin here, it would undoubtedly occur in major cities along the east coast, Chicago, and out west. Martial law would be considered de rigeur and necessary by those under it. I also wouldn’t put it past Obama & Co. to deliberately aid and abet those who wish to do it.

One of Bill Ayers acolytes set off an incendiary in a building where professors regularly stashed term papers for reading.

Burned it to a crisp.

That was in the day when xerography was in its infancy so it was not commonly the case that we'd have copies.

I got a score to settle with Bill Ayers personally and if he crosses my path his a$$ is out! Been that way for decades.

Same here. Set of twins in the class hated one of their afternoon classes, and a morning class. So at least every other day, we had to evacuate for a bomb threat. I especially hated the ones that were during my phy-ed class, which was the last class of the day. I often had to go home in my gym clothes. Started carrying my clothes with me from the locker room. They were finally caught in about November, calling from a pay phone at the convenience store across from the school.

I have seen that picture of bill ayres many times and the same thought always enters my mind when I see it. How does a person come to have that feeling about the US? How does it happen?

I can remember as a small child looking up at our flag and my heart would swell with a feeling of pride and joy. Nothing has happened to make that feeling go away.

I see a man standing on an American Flag, maybe that flag should have been a trap door on a gallows? If he did all they claim he did, why is he still alive and advising our government? AMERIKA WHAT A COUNTRY!

Bill is sociopathic. The picture is just his way of getting control of your mind. It reflects absolutely nothing about his state of mind. Bill, as a sociopath, is driven by his sexual urges of the moment, his bowel movements, his appetite ~ whether it’s day or night and is he thirsty.

HIs basic emotional make-up is at about that level. Some of these guys go whole hog and they marry women and murder them ~ Peterson ~ several of them are into that deal eh.

Bill went out to do something and back home his homosexual lover and his fiance were busy putting together one of Bill's bombs when it went off killing them and blowing out the walls of the apartment.

We don't have to reach overseas to recall bombing campaigns by terrosts. Had our own "home-grown" groups in the late sixties and early seventies.

At that time I worked in mid-town Manhattan, one block south of Grand Central Station and the Chrysler Building. From our offices we heard and felt the Exxon office bombing, which filled the center of the block from 42nd Street to 41st Street. Continental Can Co., across Lexington Ave from us had several bomb threats as did our building. The evacuations become so frequent our mgmt created a 16 digit timesheet job code for time lost in these events.

Add Fraunces Tavern, Selective Service on Whitehall St, Bank of Tokyo on Park Ave among others and it was the year of living dangerously in Mid-Town NYC.

1969 A Year of Bombings

Mr. Melville was ultimately convicted of plotting eight bombings:

The United Fruit Company warehouse at the Grace Pier on the Hudson River (July 27).

The Marine Midland building at 140 Broadway (Aug. 20).

The Federal Office Building at 26 Federal Plaza (Sept. 19)

The Armed Forces Induction Center at 39 Whitehall Street (Oct. 7)

The Chase Manhattan Bank at 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza (Nov. 11)

The Standard Oil offices in the RCA Building at Rockefeller Plaza (Nov. 11)

The General Motors Building at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue (Nov. 11)

The Criminal Courts Building at 100 Centre Street (Nov. 12)

What's striking about this three person cell is that one of them was an FBI informant. Hmmmm....

Then there was a bombing at what I seem to recall was the Midtown Howard Johnsons.

I was there. Got up and there were hoses all over the streets ~ guess it kinda' misfired. My wife was there ~ although I hadn't met her ~ that would be years later.

Postal facilities are still designed to withstand and deter the kinds of bombings most common in the 1920s when the Anarchists thought their problem was America.

No need to go to Israel...

In late April 1919, at least 36 booby trap dynamite-filled bombs were mailed to a cross-section of prominent politicians and appointees, including the Attorney General of the United States, as well as justice officials, newspaper editors and businessmen, including John D. Rockefeller. Among all the bombs addressed to high-level officials, one bomb was notably addressed to the home of an FBI field agent. On the evening of June 2, 1919 eight large bombs blew up simultaneously in eight different U.S. cities. These bombs were much larger than those sent in April, using up to twenty-five pounds of dynamite.

The response? Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, twice targeted by anarchist bombs, organized the nationwide series of police actions, known as the Palmer raids, in November 1919 and January 1920. Under suspicion of violating the Espionage Act, the Sedition Act, and/or the Immigration Act of 1918, approximately 10,000 people were arrested, of which 3,500 were held in detention. Of those held in detention, 556 resident aliens were eventually deported. Of course that was when our leaders had backbone.

We can all choose sympathy or not with Iraq, but those people seem to daily experience bombings where 30-60 people die. For a population that is much smaller than the US, they are living in a daily hell of “do I go to the market today or not”....

Our country could easily slip into this kind of daily life....

Well, heck. In the defense of the media’s perfidy, it can be said it’s just a bunch of Jews being blown up in a place they forcibly took from the poor, innocent Arabs who were 100% peaceful before 1948.

(Do I HAVE to /s)
