If she had a "partner" she not only wasn't struggling against her sin but almost certainly didn't even acknowledge it as a sin.

We all sin all the time. But we don't justify it, like this woman, calling evil "good" and referring with righteous indignity to her "partner". Mary Magdalene was not persisting in flagrante delicto nor did she subsequently vault onto the nearest available lover when Jesus commanded her to "go and sin no more". In fact in today's reprobate generation calling sin a "sin" is considered the cruelest stone Jesus could throw.
