(CNN) – Republican candidates running for office sometimes use Nancy Pelosi's name like a curse word.
Perhaps they've seen polling that indicates the House Democratic leader is the best known but least liked congressional leader, as indicated by a new Gallup survey released Wednesday.
According to the poll, 48% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Pelosi, while 31% view her in a favorable light.
Former Gov. Mark Sanford, for example, plans to solo debate against Pelosi's positions Wednesday as he campaigns for a special congressional election in South Carolina, saying his opponent, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, has only agreed to one debate.
"Because my opponent is refusing joint appearances to answer questions about where she stands on the issues, all we can assume is that she is going to be a reliable vote for the Pelosi-Obama agenda, were she to be elected," Sanford said in a statement.
Colbert Busch's team responded, saying the Democratic candidate is "spending her time with real people who support her campaign."
Of the people surveyed for the poll, 79% have some knowledge of Pelosi, while 21% either have no opinion about the congresswoman from California or because they have never heard of her.

Gee, I must be a trendsetter. I didn’t like her LONG before there was a poll showing most people don’t like her!!
Yet she still keeps getting elected. Apparently, the dislike factor isn’t enough to keep her out of office.
As in: "Oh, crud! I just stepped in some Pelosi!" ?
Or more like: "If you don't like it, then you can Kiss My Pelosi!" ?
She’s from SF, and running as a Dem. Farm Animals could get elected there, so long as there was a ‘D’ after their name.

Piglosi doesn’t care about popularity contests.
She understands politics is not a contest for “Miss Congeniality”, it is a contest for power and the ability to bring others to submit to your will.
She knows that once you have them by their weak spot, their hearts and minds will follow.
Power can be used for good or for bad.
To our detriment, she was very good at consolidating power and using it in ways harmful to America.
The way Obamacare was forced into creation is proof of that.
Last year, I was in the dentist chair getting a root canal (an activity that I would prefer to lunch with Pelosi), when San Fran Nan came on the TV.
The dentist, who had heretofore made no commentary on politics in my hearing, looked up, expressed disgust, and stated that he just couldn’t stand “that woman.”
