A door-to-door search (without willing permission from each homeowner) is clearly illegal.


If “door to door search” means they gain entry at every home whether the owner gives them permission or not, I agree. If it means they knock on each door and ask to enter, and where they are refused entry they do NOT enter, it is not illegal.

That is the kernel of this issue to me.

The kernel of the issue is whether they pressured homeowners to give consent for searches in their sweep. It sounds to me like they did.
