News cameras got a chance to catch up with the Boston Marathon bombers' uncle, Ruslan Tsarni, in an incredible interview that can be found here.
The first thing that we notice is that he looks as we Americans feel -- shaken and angry. He begins the interview by expressing condolences for those murdered and injured in the attacks. "I've been following this from day one, but would have never ever imagined that somehow, the children of my brother would be associated with that. ... This family does not know how to share their grief with the real victims" (emphasis implied).
He was then asked a question about what might have provoked this attack. His answer is pretty profound.
What does he think caused them to do it? "Being losers," he replies after a moment's pause. "Hatred for those who were able to settle themselves. These are the only reasons I can imagine of."
But Tsarni knows the implication of the question, and he answers it with conviction.
After expressing the shame he feels for his family association with these attackers, he doubles down on why he really thinks his nephews bombed the Boston Marathon. "What I think was behind it, being losers. Not being able to settle themselves. And thereby just hating everyone who did."
I teach my children, and that's what I feel myself. This is the ideal micro-world in the entire world. I respect this country, I love this country. This country, which gives chance to everybody else to be treated as a human being. That is what I feel about this country.
This man could not be more American. I don't care where he comes from, how much money he makes, or what God he worships. And he is right: that is what makes America great.

He could have said no comment. He could have expressed sorrow for the victims. Most relatives of mass killers provide one of those responses. Very few, Muslim or otherwise, actually trash the perps.
A wonderful sentiment. Too bad he hasn't a clue as to the origins of that open-heartedness.
This man could not be more American.
Oh yes he could! He could learn about and join in that American Judeo-Christian culture more fully, renounce Islam, and learn about the Messiah that taught us to love our enemies and bless those that hate us. Unfortunately, I think Yeshua was talking about brothers in the Torah, and not everybody, with the consequence that too many who heed the words fail to understand the context in which they are to be applied. Still...
I don't care where he comes from, how much money he makes, or what God he worships. And he is right: that is what makes America great.
Well I do, because the words of that prophet ARE written on the subway walls and tenement halls, and silent no more. Islam needs to be crushed, but its followers need to be saved.
I don’t think the uncle is particularly religious. He reportedly told his nephew “Islam will always be there, don’t worry about it. Get an education, get a job, make yourself useful. Don’t be a little (expletive).”
Everyone connected realizes they are in the spotlight
and are posturing to come off as likeable to the average
American as possible.
-the wife and her family didn’t see that side of him
-some imam says he would not give last rites blah,blah...
The uncle, who looks successful, I think he is
an attorney, and knows its better here than anywhere else.
But when the rubber hits the road, guess what side he’ll
come down on.
That was the story I got as well. The first immigrants from that family were non religious but over the next 15 or 20 years, more radical and elements of the family followed.
Heck, I’ve got militant lesbians in my family and I’m vehemently opposed to gay marriage. By the standards some here are trying to impose, conservatives are finished because they can’t accept allies who have involuntary associations we may not like.
I can only name 2 or 3 muslims I consider trustworthy but they have a history of speaking out against radicalism and actually walking the walk. I’m willing to give uncle Ruslan the benefit of a doubt and pray that he keeps walking the walk.
“he was very upset and emotional”
Did you see the aunt, father and mother?
This man is not a typical Muslim-American or a Muslim in America. That’s why his statements are so startling. So out of the mainstream is he, that he’s likely to be targeted by one of the terrorists in his community; that is, if he lives among other Muslims.
Someone should ask Uncle Ruslan if he recognized his nephews from the L&T video broadcast last Friday @ 5:00 ... and if he then called the police to identify them???
He openly said that his family are Muslims.
That's a very Koranic view
It's straight out of Leviticus 25.
Then he was lying when he omiited Islam as the cause of the nephews’ bombing innocent people.
I didn’t see a mention of Islam one way or another as I only read the part of the article posted here.
Good Mozlems are those who stop attending the mosque, associating with other Mozlems, listening to any imams etc and condemnding in whatever way they can, radical (ie “devout” Islam. Of course by doing so they risk death.
But choices are often hard.
Why is this man’s last name different from ‘his brother’s’ last name???
Even “good” Muslims can spawn “bad” Muslims.
So the only real “good” Muslims are ones who have converted to another faith - ANY other faith.
