How about legislation that states ‘if you came here illegally, you can never become a citizen unless you leave and apply for entry from outside the country - with a minimum wait of 18 months. If you don’t do this, within a year of the passage of this legislation, you can apply for a work visa, stay, and pay taxes, but you can never be a full citizen and vote - ever.’

You see, this is the big misconception - the big lie. These people don’t give a crap about becoming U.S. citizens or assimilating into American society. They come to escape the squalor and poverty in their own countries. Many hope to get jobs, but make no mistake, they also know that the U.S. has this incredible “safety net” of welfare, food stamps, and housing assistance for those who can’t or won’t work. The only citizenship that interests the vast majority is citizenship for their “anchor babies” who keep them from being deported. Furthermore, absolutely nothing is being done to prevent foreign nationals from voting. Hells bells...illegals, foreign nationals, felons, the mentally infirm, dead people...they all vote in our elections and if they’re Democrats, they vote multiple times.
