WATERTOWN, Mass. (AP) - One of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing is dead after the killing of a university officer and a shootout with police, and a massive manhunt is underway for the other, authorities said early Friday.
Police are locking down some neighborhoods in Boston and its western suburbs as they search for the remaining suspect: known as the man in the white hat from marathon surveillance footage.
Authorities urged residents in Watertown, Newton, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge and the Allston-Brighton neighborhoods of Boston to stay indoors. All mass transit was shut down and businesses were asked not to open Friday. People waiting at bus and subway stops were told to go home.
"We believe this to be a terrorist," said Boston Police Commissioner Ed David of the suspect on the loose. "We believe this to be a man who's come here to kill people. We need to get him in custody."
The Middlesex district attorney said the two men are suspected of killing a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer on campus in Cambridge late Thursday, then stealing a car at gunpoint and later releasing its driver unharmed.
Hours earlier, police had released photos of the marathon bombing suspects and asked for the public's help finding them. A new photo of the suspect on the loose was released later showing him in a grey hoodie sweatshirt. It was taken at a 7-Eleven in Cambridge, just across the Charles River from Boston.

My son’s in Belmont. He’s fine. His brother woke him up to tell him to stay indoors. I’m sure he went back to bed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcsLaSBWG9k ~ what every sounded minded Bostonian wishes he had in his house or apartment this morning!
So how many bullets do you need if these two show up at your house?
who is Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev?
Since these guys were also guilty of robbing a 7-11 last night...which led to the chase by the police and resulted in the killing of Suspect #1. Why do news commentators keep asking...Why did they stay in the area? Well, since they had to rob a 7-11, obviously they don’t have any money. Probably no car, or enough for a ticket on a commercial vehicle to get out of there. Suspect#2 still at large, armed, and probably no way to leave the area.. Obviously desperate, dangerous, hungry and broke. I hope all store owners are well protected with their own firearms. Suspect #2 might be looking for snacks.

Checking in from Natick (approx 17 miles from Boston Center):
Can’t get to work in Newton. MBTA shut down. Boss called an said heavy firepower locking down 3 suburbs.
So, um... probably not the best time to bring this up but... perhaps we want to hold on that immigration bill for a bit? [smarmy chuckle]
That is the exact question every American needs to pose when interviewed by the media, at every local state and national political forum. to their pols/reps...until every person on the planet is sick of hearing it. Because it cuts to the core of it all.
Because the cops/feds will not be there.
Police asked businesses in all neighboring towns such as Newton not to open today, so you wouldn’t go trying to get to work at all.
It’s MA. I believe it is difficult to get a weapon there. Police response time = minutes, days. Response time of a .45acp = 800fps. Which should you choose?
Unlikely. This is MA that is in a constant battle with NY for title of state with the largest percentage of citizens who hate guns and hate gun owners. I hope a few of the strident anti-gun aholes who live there are at least thinking as they cower in their homes "Maybe I should have a gun after all." But probable not.
True story. I went to a patriots day celebration in Lexington many years ago. I was near a vendor selling various toys including little toy flintlocks - we're talking a few inches. Some kid asked his mother to get him one, Not only did the b***h tell her kid no, but she proceded to scold the vendor for selling toy guns. I felt like punching her in the mouth myself. I can only imagine what the guy selling the toys felt like, but he pretty much ignored her. This woman to me represents the typical masshole.
My thought exactly. This episode is the perfect counterargument to liberal stupidity about gun control. I'm hoping some Bostonian gun owner takes out the remaining brother -- preferably with a mean looking gun like an AR-15.
So how many bullets do you need if these two show up at your house?
I wonder how many Bostonians are for gun control now?
Pray that his evil young man is captured so he can spill his guts about other perpetrators.
When, if that moose-limb creep tries to enter one`s home, the citizen, could use that weapon to end this. A potential citizen hero for sure!
1.6 billion, apparently....
I can’t believe these bastards are calling the terrorists “Russians!”
