About 20 pounds of rusty iron later, I decided that metal detecting the property of the village smithy was a pretty bad idea.
Got lots of rusty horse/mule shoes, hand made nails and chain fragments, though.
It turned out that waiting for frog-downer downpours were more fruitful.
Lots of neat stuff washes out of the bank behind the house where generations apparently tossed out all their unwanted junk.
The coolest things were clay marbles and a milk glass elephant Cracker Jack prize.
The stream beside the house frequently hurls up Jade Ware and pottery fragments.
They come downstream from somewhere up on the ridge.
Crazy place.
