Good Lord, Salamander...I can’t imagine how that was!

There are two sides to this. There is the issue of overzealous cops shooting dogs.
And then the dog owners who let unsocialized dogs run loose to terrorize the neighborhood. I really think we need to enforce the latter, to protect all doggies.

My dog was secured in another room with a French door between him and everything else going down.

My ex was UA from the Navy and we’d gone back to Norfolk so he could turn himself in.

The woman we were staying with until morning called the base [$200 reward for turning in her friend] and they sent every cop in Norfolk, MPs from the base and a guy in a fully padded bite suit because she told them we were ‘dangerous and had a killer dog’.

When the jackboots started throwing me around [have no idea why] the dog naturally started raising hell from the other room and one of the cops pulled his weapon and aimed at the dog.

I squirmed loose from the grip of the other cop and dove through the door and threw myself on top of the dog, knocking him flat to the floor, where we both waited for the bullets to hit.

It was pure reflex on my part but I would do it again if I had to.

This was back in 1981 so cops vs dogs is not a “new thing”.

Since that night, I have never again allowed the stupidity of somebody I might think I love jeopardize the safety of my innocent dogs.
