FBI security bulletin shows images of evidence from Boston bombing; Update: 4chan users connecting

The FBI has begun to send pictures and other data from the crime-scene investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing to law-enforcement agencies around the country, including an image of a shredded black backpack in which one of the devices may have been hidden. Reuters and the Associated Press managed to get copies of the unclassified bulletin and published a few of the images late in the evening, as did ABC:

that the bomb inside the backpack was an “improvised explosive device (IED)” made out of a common pressure cooker. ABC News had previously reported that law enforcement recovered mangled parts of a pressure cooker bomb that included wires, shrapnel and a circuit board.

The advisory said there was “insufficient evidence” to determine if the second explosive, which was also hidden in a backpack less than a block away, was made from a pressure cooker as well.

Authorities have not yet determined the fusing system for the devices or what exactly set them off, the advisory said. The blasts erupted at approximately 2:50 p.m. EST near the marathon’s finish line Monday afternoon killing three people — including an 8-year-old boy — and injuring more than 170 others. Authorities have no suspects in the case and no group, domestic or international, has taken responsibility for the attack.

I find that pretty curious, actually. Normally, terrorist groups use the media frenzy as a platform for their extremist agendas. Obviously the media interest won’t fade away completely in the next couple of days, but the arc of media coverage will begin to wane significantly as normal news coverage returns. Why wait to make the agenda for the attack known rather than take advantage of the short-lived terror it caused?

CBS has more of the images, and the FBI’s call for more:

That message from anonymous about who is going to be blamed is interesting. Should be tracking on that information taking place. Certainly that sender of that info does not think someone cannot find him / her.

Sold both in the US and the EU. Photo shows UL listing, and a CE mark.

I had been of a mind that the cooker was electric, having a UL listing, but I'm rethinking that maybe UL is involved in certifying pressure vessels that are fired on a range.

white male in white hat and backpack appears to conversing with white? male in blue black stripe sleeves jacket carrying blue backpack. The reason for putting white? is the person in blue does not appear to be completely white. If this sounds racist, is not intended to be.

The call to regulate sales of black powder and smokeless powder is inevitable, because that's what was used to charge the device. Same sort of reaction to OKC, change manufacture of fertilizer, and limit who it could be sold to and keep records of all sales.

20-30 year old is a very safe bet.

Possesses NRA literature? Maybe.

Anyway, my point is that what is posted as inside info could just as easy be a "Carnac Says" type of trick.

I suggest it is from someone younger, who hasn’t ever seen a pressure cooker let alone used one, or know why people use them.

Pressure cookers, aren’t as popular today, as they were 30 years ago, and I would suggest it would be difficult to buy one....

They aren't as popular as they used to be, but you could probably find one at most Targets, Walmarts, and department stores, never mind kitchen specialty stores. They might only have one, but they probably have more in small towns and rural areas where more people are into canning. Walmart.com has dozens of models. Target.com has several, and I was able to confirm online that they're in stock at all of the half-dozen stores closest to me.

And things that were much more popular 30 years ago have a way of showing up at yard sales and thrift shops.

I have three. They sell them every day at Walmart, Ace Hardware, Sears, JCPenny, and many large grocery stores. They are also sold on amazon.com and countless other sites.

a wire going into one ear

Different angles show wires in both ears. They look like the earbud style headphones made popular by the original iPod; though now with mobile phones, there is also a mic included in some models. Picture detail is too low to tell if it's got a mic.

Pressure cookers are about as rare as coleman lanterns or canning jars, ie not at all.

True. I even have one that works in a microwave.
