LAKE WALES | The Arabic word, translated simply, means "unbeliever."
Ever since Eddie Bryant had it inked across his right calf, the former National Guard member has gotten positive reactions, he said, until last week.
Bryant walked into Florida Skydiving Center on April 3 in shorts, his tattoo of the word "kafir" exposed. A group from Qatar, a Middle Eastern country with an overwhelmingly Muslim population, also was visiting.
A staffer tapped Bryant, 27, on the shoulder as he stood under a hangar at the Lake Wales business.
Would he mind seeing the manager, Betty Hill?
Hill, 59, and Bryant disagree over certain details of what happened next. But the version Bryant posted on his website has spread from blog to blog in the past week, leading to a flood of angry emails and calls to the Florida Skydiving Center in Lake Wales that Hill still getting criticism a week later never expected.
Hill and Bryant agree that in a brief conversation in her office, she asked him to cover the tattoo.
A member of the Qatari group, made up mostly of military police from the country and some civilians, she said, had quietly approached a staffer because they found the tattoo offensive.
When Bryant explained he didn't have pants to wear, both of them say, Hill suggested he cover it with a piece of duct tape.
"It seemed like a joke that anyone would suggest that," said Bryant, who has returned to his home in the Cleveland area. "But I knew she was serious."
Here's where they disagree: Bryant said when they came to the impasse, he was forced to leave.

Okay where did you get it?
After reading more accounts as to what happened, I’d say both sides behaved OK. More controversy is unnecessary.
Florida Skydiving Center made an appropriate business decision. She talked to the vet in private and only asked he cover the tattoo, he said no and left. The business decided to serve a group of customers v. one customer. The customer had other places available for the same service & left quietly.
Skydiving co.s should be wary of dodgy looking possible terrorists, but these from Qatar were vetted. The business could have offered the vet a discount if he covered the tattoo.
If anyone is interested, here is their web page (still without an apology to Eddie, or any veteran)

Now, what to do about an employee who has cost your business revenue?
If he is not in a protected class [race, disabled, union] fire him. If protected call your lawyer or hitman.
The delicious irony is that he’s getting jacked up for calling himself what they call him. Sort of the converse of “we can call ourselves niggers, but don’t you care call us that, honky”. And no, I didn’t asterisk the letters, because it’s not a curse word. It’s ugly and objectionable, but it’s not a curse word.
A wild guess would have Kevin not be like a son to dumBO, so he can expect the full force of the Injustice Department.
I have tried to live by a corollary of the Golden Rule, that it is not possible to not give offense, but, it is possible to take no offense.
It’s strange they’d be offended by the man tagging himself as an infidel.
Also kind of strange that a person in their right mind would tag themselves with it.
They were offended.
Well, I’m offended that they’re offended, which I am sure will no doubt offend them even more, to which I of course, will be extremely, extremely offended, which will place them in such an over-the-top state of offense that... well you get it.
Two can play at this game.
He was simply accepting the label they give people like him, which I find offensive.
lol
I had a tattoo ready to go that said “Jesus Bless America” in Arabic (I didn’t want “Allah” written on me, so I went straight to Jesus rather than “God”).
I should dig that up and get it done.
I totally disagree with you in every possible way. This is America and the demand that one should be able to walk around “unoffended” is just ridiculous, ESP if you are a muslim visiting our country. Period. If they didn’t like the tattoo, stop looking at it. Easy. The business owner did NOT do the right thing. She should have said, this is America and sometimes you see things that are offensive. But she didn’t push back against them gawking at his tattoo. Why not? This is outrageous!
Well then we’re both offended! Who can we go whine to?
Global Whining
we are all victims now
It would never in a million years occur to me, when in a foreign country to COMPLAIN about some affectation I saw there. Funny how it seems to INSTANTLY occur to visitors to America to lodge complaints against Americans; to say NOTHING of how quickly the Americans being complained to accede to the complainer.
I’ve seen it before - bravado and grunts sort of go together. Gotta love that about ‘em, frankly!

I'm aso a Christian - "Recovering Methodist", actually - but just wear it to piss-off the few muzzie filth at the ranges. I usually wear this cap with protective eargear:
She probably did not push back on the Muslims because there was more money there, probably a lot more money. If push comes to pull as something general in this Nation it will be money that rules the day.
And a photographer or baker who refuses to give service to a same sex couple is roasted over a spit.
This has nothing to do with fairness. Everything to do with eliminating normal people.
