Social conservatives warn Priebus they could abandon GOP

A group of high-profile social conservatives warned Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in a letter this week that their supporters could abandon the GOP if the party seeks to change its position on social issues, particularly same-sex marriage.

Thirteen social conservatives, representing various influential groups, wrote Priebus ahead of the RNC's quarterly meeting this week in Los Angeles to sternly rebuke the conclusions of a post-election report that advised Republican elected officials to adopt a softer tone toward social issues.

"We respectfully warn GOP Leadership that an abandonment of its principles will necessarily result in the abandonment of our constituents to their support," concludes the letter, which was obtained by and independently verified by NBC News in advance of the meeting this week.

The letter further asks GOP committeemen to pass a resolution at their meeting this week re-affirming the party's 2012 national platform, which includes language calling for bans on abortion and same-sex marriage.

As of right now, the way things stand, Ted Cruz is the only Republican I deem worthy of my vote.

The one thing you CAN do. Vote/support/work to empower the things you believe in and against the things you don’t. If we would have stuck to that 2 years ago, there would have been no Romeny and the GOP would either be towing the line today or abandoned by now.

We start now or never.

Good challenge. I’ll say this: while she remains GOP I will too. The party she is in is my party.

The same party that is trying to push her out is trying to push all of us out. But while she remains I’m in too.

She is one of the few who is able to put my philosophical views into the spoken word and do so boldly without apology.

The “Republican” brand is thoroughly discredited. In some ways fairly through their own actions which are 180 from their own platform.

If the Picture Frame Party did everything the GOP has to wreck it’s brand, there would be no Picture Frame party as no one in their right mind would try to salvage it.

Conservatives have adopted the exact same mindset as the Sharpton blacks. They MUCH! support the very people who keep them oppressed and on the plantation. Not something I would think a supposedly smart group of people (conservatives) should look up to as a model.

“Let it die the death it worked to achieve.

I am no fan of Mitt, but at the time he would have had to force town clerks not to accept applications and as most towns here operate on “Town Meeting” it would never have worked. We are the gay capitol of the East.

I am glad Mitt is gone and living in the sewer California has sadly become, I say that with great regret as a former resident. I am fully functionally aware of mass resistance and support them most always but you have NO idea how people were having their livelihoods threatened, names, addresses and personal info published for signing the petition all by the pink mafia, YES, I Signed! In spite of the inherent danger to my family for a variety of reasons. He was always a freakin’ squish ball and that’s why he lost, he has NO BALLS.
Much like Reince Priebus but DO NOT blame the voters of the Corrupt Gay State for this crap.

P.S. Mitt lost. Move along to more important issues please.

I can understand her reluctance as it’s never easy to accept/understand when someone turns on you. Whether it’s a husband/wife/friend/boss or political party.

But they do. And she will have to accept it. I love her to death, but she’s caught up in the whole ‘Stages of Grief’ thing that so many conservatives are right now.

“Move along to more important issues please.”

Move along on social issues and Priebus, and the GOP and the candidate that they ran only 5 months ago?

You might want to drop your defense of the homosexual agenda of Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his introducing some of it to America when he was Governor, and check the subject of this thread again.

The real question is, was Romney the culmination of the war against social conservatism by the GOP establishment, and does it signal a permanent rejection of the party platform
as he said that he personally rejected the party platform as quoted in post 47?

The establishment’s support of Romney and his radical social liberal history has brought this to a head.

That will never happen because it can't happen.

We can, however, decapitate one of the two existing national parties and replace that unit with one more to our liking.

I prefer creating a NEW NATIONAL COMMITTEE and asking the state parties to send delegates to an organizing meeting.

I second that motion.

From Wiki-—

Stages of Grief

Denial — “I feel fine.”; “This can’t be happening, not to me.”

Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of possessions and individuals that will be left behind after death. Denial can be conscious or unconscious refusal to accept facts, information, or the reality of the situation. Denial is a defense mechanism and some people can become locked in this stage.

Anger — “Why me? It’s not fair!”; “How can this happen to me?”; ‘”Who is to blame?”

Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to care for due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy. Anger can manifest itself in different ways. People can be angry with themselves, or with others, and especially those who are close to them. It is important to remain detached and nonjudgmental when dealing with a person experiencing anger from grief.

Bargaining — “I’ll do anything for a few more years.”; “I will give my life savings if...”

The third stage involves the hope that the individual can somehow postpone or delay death. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made with a higher power in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. Psychologically, the individual is saying, “I understand I will die, but if I could just do something to buy more time...” People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek to negotiate a compromise. For example “Can we still be friends?..” when facing a break-up. Bargaining rarely provides a sustainable solution, especially if it’s a matter of life or death. Not much noted, but common, bargaining can also include guilt, including survivors guilt.

Depression — “I’m so sad, why bother with anything?”; “I’m going to die soon so what’s the point?”; “I miss my loved one, why go on?”

During the fourth stage, the dying person begins to understand the certainty of death. Because of this, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time crying and grieving. This process allows the dying person to disconnect from things of love and affection. It is not recommended to attempt to cheer up an individual who is in this stage. It is an important time for grieving that must be processed. Depression could be referred to as the dress rehearsal for the ‘aftermath’. It is a kind of acceptance with emotional attachment. It’s natural to feel sadness, regret, fear, and uncertainty when going through this stage. Feeling those emotions shows that the person has begun to accept the situation.

Acceptance — “It’s going to be okay.”; “I can’t fight it, I may as well prepare for it.”

In this last stage, individuals begin to come to terms with their mortality, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. This stage varies according to the person’s situation. People dying can enter this stage a long time before the people they leave behind, who must pass through their own individual stages of dealing with the grief.

Thomas Jefferson even used it with the first modern political party in American history.

It's not discredited but there are people who are certainly discredited, and there have always been such people. Mitt Romney, for example, is wholly discredited, but Muawiyah, ME, isn't!

Mitt's now a professional coupon clipper ~ no job, no occupation, nothing but his money to play with. He joined the 47%
