Better to be warned and nothing happen than it is to get a surprise.
I grew up in Toledo, Ohio and one came within a block of us just once. However there were a LOT of warnings.
Grandpa always looked at the sky and the leaves on the trees. The sky would get a sick, greenish color and the leaves turn upside down, or bottoms up. He said conditions were right for a tornado forming. They didn't have a warning system when he was boy and you were your own weatherman. lol
