LOS ANGELES – A storm that toppled trees, caused scattered power outages and whipped up blinding dust storms brought blizzard conditions to parts of Colorado, where up to 20 inches of snow was expected in the mountains through Tuesday.
With forecasters predicting 6 to 11 inches, Denver Public Schools closed all schools and offices Tuesday. Colorado's largest school district, Jeffco Public Schools, was among those canceling classes.
Denver International Airport reported at least two dozen canceled flights and warned travelers to be ready for delays as planes were deiced. Strong wind before the snow delayed flights up to 40 minutes Monday night, and some arrivals were diverted to Colorado Springs.

Its not. Its snowed or there was snow on the ground on my birthday in early May many times during my growing up years.
Correction - Nebraska, not Kansas.

March being the snowiest month may not surprise many, but April coming in at number 3 should raise some eyebrows. The only time I would consider snowfall unusual is August.

It’s not. But it HAS been exceptionally cold for this time of year. I live north of Boulder and it’s forecast to go to 10 degrees here tonight. That’s REALLY cold for April on the Front Range.
But I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m pretty sure the AGW global warming models predicted that things would get MUCH colder due to global warming.
My husband drove through the storm yesterday in the Colorado mountains. There was so much dust it turned the snow banks brown in some places.
It isn’t odd to snow in the Colorado mountains in April, it just becomes new cuz they have to talk about something.
Worst snowstorm I remember was at 5000 ft. Elevation the first week of April...in the 1970’s.
The point being the global warming theory....

I remember a heavy snowstorm in April ‘73 a bit north of Colorado Springs.
I’ve got three to five foot drifts all around my home here in the Black Hills. Mr. RR is plowing, or trying to plow the road to our house. In inches, I don’t know how many we got. Some places are bare and in others, the snow would reach my chin. Not supposed to let up until tomorrow midday.
Not complaining. We desperately need the moisture. We get most of our big snows in March and April. What is unusual is the temperature for this time of year. Only 9 degrees here.
That storm moved through SoCal yesterday, surprising most everyone here. I thought I saw some snow mixed in the worst of it too. Snow in April where I live is not too unusual. Windy this morning, but clear skies.
I recall 5” on Memorial Day about 55 years ago in Colorado Springs. Leaves on trees, so older branches came off. Lots of concern about the trees, but two years later the trees, freshly pruned, were lusher than ever.
Also 5” on Labor Day too. Same result.
Of course, the day after the snow had mostly evaporated.
She said that they were looking forward to some warmer weather and that they still had "Piles and Piles" of snow, and had just received "another dusting".
Dusting = anything from 'a little' to "Six Inches".
Of course, when I lived in Maine, April snow was common. Nothing particularly special about it, frankly, other than by April you were sick to death of snow and just wanted it gone.

Born & raised in Arvada Co. Best snow storms are the spring ones. I lived in Leadville for a few years...summers lasted a whole 2 weeks..and then it usually rained :^) My Grandfather’s words still ring in my ears when we go somewhere..”all ways take your coat no matter the month”
Living in southeast Wyoming now..we were without power all night from the snow. Very thankful for the moisture!!
I was in a snowstorm coming into CO Springs, July 1995. I was in a snowstorm coming into CO Springs, May 2005 or so. I flew out of DIA in a snowstorm, May 2010.
Snow forecast for my area has been a bust, a bit disappointed. Just bitter cold and strong winds.
Various locations of Nebraska average between 1-7”” of snow in April.
Some county roads out here are only plowed out 2 of 3 years. If you want to find snow there are always north facing slopes covered year round. In the ‘70s Meeker had a Fourth of July snowfall of over a foot. Really screwed up the parade.
