I see the cops’ point, but this is certainly no more distracting than trying to follow a paper map.

Texting, OTOH, I agree is totally unacceptable while driving. Found this out after a very close call myself.

Don’t do it.

My favorite navigator on iphone is WAZE because you can report police real-time with it and get the alerts of them on voice and map.

We have a exception for Nav devices here but if I was in CA I would hold the phone out of view of the windows,

If the map says you’re in California, you’re lost.

When I am at a red light that I know will be long in duration, I check my phone for email. I don’t really feel distracted. I put it down when the light turns green.

I wish common sense were the rule and not the exception.

I have a 200 channel scanner. It is one of those which have a lot of frequencies which are no longer allowed. I hardly ever use it unless a cop car comes by with lights and siren.

I heard one a few months ago who had pulled over a motorist for not signaling a turn. From my window at my computer I can see an intersection of two rural highways. I started watching and so far not a single cop car has signaled a turn. Not a single one.

Good. Anyone knows that a person can pull up a map app...on a second’s notice. It is COMPLETELY different than having a REAL map with him.

Let him fry...

Keep digging, Texas loves this kind of nonsense.

I see looking at your instrument panel readings or making adjustments to your radio system just as distracting. What is one more piece of information than something that tells where you are?

I am shocked they didn't rule the driver had no standing to appeal. That appears to be the judicial wussy-out recently in vogue.

California is collapsing. Tickets are all about revenue, nothing else. So of course the ticket was upheld - plus “costs.”

Until then, Hamlin wrote, courts are compelled to deem illegal nearly all uses of hand-held phone by motorists.

nearly all uses? well then, which uses are deemed legal?

It’s no more distracting than using a microphone
for a 2 way radio or an in car data terminal....both
of which are in constant use by the elite super human
macho badgemonkeys who are immune to the laws that the
rest of us mere mundanes must obey. Distracted driving
is distracted driving....either the law applies to
EVERYONE or it is not a law but a petty beaurocratic
regulation imposed by apparatchiks and their hired thugs...
all of whom are deserving of a good neck stretching.

All the more reasons to research into privacy windows that can change the tint or even to be reflective for a short period of time.

Or they just show an image of you like a video, while behind the glass you are doing something else.
