Grassley Gun Bill Priorities Emerge

The details of a gun control bill being written by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) are now coming to light. As first reported by Politico, Grassley is crafting a Republican alternative to Democrats’ proposals, which are centered on expanding background checks, including information-sharing and record-keeping. In a follow-up piece this morning, Politico suggests that Grassley’s effort could draw moderates of both parties away from the Democrats’ main proposal.

Previously Grassley’s office has declined to comment on the bill being authored, but in an interview today Press Secretary Beth Levine laid out the Iowa Republican’s legislative priorities. She said Grassley is considering five main points: addressing mental health challenges; reining in gun trafficking; preventing school violence and ensuring student safety; protecting veterans from false mental health accusations (e.g. of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder); and improving enforcement of existing laws regarding state information-sharing for the background check database. (On the latter point Levine added that only “13 states do it.”)...

Take a pill.
Not a single provision of Grassley’s proposal says a thing about guns. In fact, it seems to be more an attempt to PROTECT 2nd Amendment rights than diminish them. The extra stuff is just fluff like “improving enforcement of existing laws”, etc.

You take a pill. “Improving enforcement of existing laws” when they’re unconstitutional in the first place is not what I want my Senator doing. Especially at a moment when what is absolutely required is bold principled leadership.

“Improving enforcement of existing laws”.... regarding nformation-sharing between states about criminals and psychos. That's what got your panties in a twist?

Get a grip.

Well, I guess we'll find out just who they consider "criminals and psychos," won't we. And just how much compromising my esteemed Senator does at this critical moment in our nation's history.

It sounds to me like he’s fashioning a life raft for rats and RINOs who want to be seen by their sucker mom voters as “doing something”... without really doing anything. Look, I am as strident about the Constitution (including the 2nd Amendment) as Mark Levin (who I listen to every night). If I get a whiff of something foul, I’ll know it. I just don’t see anything in the slightest bit threatening in Grassley’s proposals. I didn’t hear much of Mark’s program tonight, but I’ll be interested to see if he comments about Grassley’s proposals.

FRegards,
LH
