Health secretary didn't expect persistent Obamacare opposition

The top White House adviser on health care said on Monday she did not anticipate how lengthy and persistent the political opposition would be to healthcare reform - U.S. President Barack Obama's signature domestic legislative achievement.

The administration had not anticipated opposition to the Affordable Care Act of 2010, nicknamed "Obamacare," would drag on years after the law's passage, said Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Despite its goal to provide health coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans and improve the quality of medical care delivered across the country, many voters have balked over concerns the law will raise healthcare costs and increase government involvement in their personal decisions.

"The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, 'This is the law of the land, let's get on board, let's make this work.' And yet we will find ourselves having state by state political battles."

One factor that contributed to the law's unpopularity for a large segment of the American public is the fact that its benefits have taken several years to impact people directly. Only in 2014 will many of its broadest benefits take effect, extending health coverage to millions more people.

Nor did the 65-70% of Americans that detest the law and the way it was jammed down our throats in the dead of night. We incorrectly assumed the SCOTUS would throw it out as UNCONSITUTIONAL - which it surely is. IF this is not UNCONSTITUTIONAL then the Feds can make us purchase any product or service from a private company and we must comply. The proposal to have all gun owners purchase liability insurance will be the next big jam down.

People didn’t want it, and it got shoved down their throats in a particularly dirty and underhanded way — payoffs to politicians and maybe a threat to a Chief US Supreme Court justice? Plus the idiots who signed it didn’t even bother to read it, the clowns.

Doctors aren’t thrilled with it either, Kathleen. They want to make their own decisions when treating patients. They are insulted and rightfully so, and many of them are in the process of leaving the profession, my mother’s doctor being one of them.

Guess what? People aren’t going to make it any easier for you to implement this. Many people hope the whole thing implodes, taking you and your ilk and Dear Leader along with it.

As far as “law of the land” — What BS is that? What do you people know about laws?

But nobody in the teeming masses remembers that stuff.

With the way the oil patch got screwed by this administration, I don't think Miss Piggy can count on the Acadiana vote this time around. The Obamacare anchor tied around Mary's neck is just an added bonus.

Another “dumb as a bag of hammers” Obama cabinet appointee.
That’s why he picked them.

Weak leaders always feel threatened by smart, strong, capable subordinates.
So Obama made sure he wouldn’t have that problem.

So the American people didn’t embrace this sack-o-sh*t with open arms?

Just illustrates how the Marxists project the stupidity of their “base” onto the majority of intelligent Americans.

Oooohhh, if only the majority was as stupid as the offal that voted for Bath-House!

I don't think they're stupid as much as they're delusional.

I vote 'pure evil'!

Yep, I’ll be one of them. I’ve been wondering, since half the working age population doesn’t pay taxes and doesn’t file a tax return how is the IRS going to find them to send them a form?
