KABUL, Afghanistan Anne Smedinghoff had a quiet ambition and displayed a love of global affairs from an early age, joining the U.S. Foreign Service straight out of college and volunteering for missions in perilous locations worldwide.
So when the 25-year-old suburban Chicago woman was killed Saturday in southern Afghanistan the first American diplomat to die on the job since last year's attack in Benghazi, Libya her family took solace in the fact that she died doing something she loved.

So why, at this point in the game, are we sending our best out on high-risk missions when we’ve already ceded the game to the Taliban?

Our embassy staffs should be all male, period. Female staff, wives & children of U.S. foreign service personnel should be evacuated from muzzie countries, immediately.

Given the fact that Islam is irreconcilable with any form of democracy, I really don’t know why we have embassies in some of these places to begin with. They cannot be protected in an area where the foreign government sympathizes with those who would kill them, and our government that sends them there won’t condemn the mindset that drives them to do so.
