lol, Fishtalk...you DO have a way with words.
I’ve never heard that cats would go after moles. I think I’ll have to talk to mine and ask her what’s the deal?
Gerald sounds like a good kitteh.
lol, I see acapesket beat me to it.
Yes indeed I did, BUT I forgot about Pat’s glass top stove, ixnay on the cast iron, use that on your BBQ side burner...bacon yum! Stick with the stainless steel for the glass top and avoid that no stick crap....all leaching chemicals! Yech!
Good advice. I haven’t been able to use the cast iron skillet or dutch oven since I got the glass top. I guess if I wanted to make a pineapple upside down cake, I could use the skillet (in the oven).

Linda has to go.
I just pray he doesn’t pull a Murkowski and run as an Indie to split the vote.
Yep, the media sure buried 190,000 jobs estimate, which the Average of a Bloomberg-News survey of 87 estimates from economists.
#####
And when GWB was president, every news report about the jobs numbers considered any increase less than 250,000 per month to be horrible!!!
Thanks, Son House.
I’ve been cooking for decades and love my cast iron skillets and wok, they work real well on my wood cook stove and the gas range. But they weigh a ton and aren’t really suitable for flipping. I have a full set of copper pans and skillets, they look real pretty hanging up there...as decoration.
Stainless steel makes good sinks, backdrops, bowls, cutlery and eating utensils, but...
...Stainless skillets SUCK!
Guaranteed to stick and scorch.
Since when is ceramic dangerous, do you eat off stainless plates? Why isn’t pyrex glass just as dangerous...or copper, or other cooking surfaces, especially teflon?
Actually I think stainless may well be one of the substances that does release metals into your cooking, just like aluminum and copper do. My guess would be a lot of nickel isn’t real good for you.
I could be mistaken, but I’m not finding where ceramics are particularly dangerous. Unless I’m proven wrong, I’m going to keep on having fun with my new ceramic skillet. As far as I’m concerned...
....it’s the best thing in the kitchen since bacon.
Most glazes are nontoxic once fired, but the only thing I could find toxic is the use of lead as a component. Lead based glazes are not to be used in conjunction with food containers or cooking ware.
But then again, how do you know your best heirloom “China” isn’t killing you?
Cast iron has its advantages: even heating, great for deep frying, blackening, etc., but teflon rules for cooking eggs. I have yet to try the new ceramics but they look promising. I do take exception to their ads where they cook eggs without oil. Oil and butter are the only way to fly
(The objections to non-stick coatings on the basis of health concerns are paranoid.)
My contention is ceramic trumps the teflon (with condolences to my old favorite ironstone saute skillet)
I do take exception to their ads where they cook eggs without oil. Oil and butter are the only way to fly (or fry)
I agree, I got both the butter and the egg in the skillet, but couldn't seem to get the two to stay together, too slippery. I had to swirl the egg around to pick up the butter.
Maybe you saw my post last week, I fried up some onions and green peppers in oil, poured in the beaten eggs (this is a 10-1/2" skillet) swirled it around a couple of times to make sure the omelet was freed up.
I gave it a quick yank and the whole thing went up, flipped over and landed back in place, just like on TV.
It was nice and thin. I had to, and was able to, fold it twice to make it fit on the plate.
My latest excursion was cornmeal pancakes and fried ham, a couple of farm eggs sunny-side up.
Atta girl!
It was an old stove, so maybe they've improved on them.
No, ours is an old-timer too, but it's not black, it has a porcelain finish on the sides and a black cooktop. I need to take it apart and put it back together with furnace cement so it will be a little more manageable.
I baked in the oven one time. Wow, was that hard to regulate.
Yeah, I'm not that gung ho. I don't cook on wood all the time, usually in the winter or when it's pretty cool out. It makes it nice and warm in the kitchen and when you have a good batch of flames it works well for frying or using the wok (cast iron in my case) I take off the round stove lid and stick the wok right down in the fire.
However, I like cooking on gas just as well, and I firmly believe the best ovens are electric.
I thought you were talking about teflon and those green pans advertised on TV. I am not so sure we can use ceramics on glass tops, I’ll have to look into it. My Mom died from Alzheimer’s and cooked in aluminum all of her life so I am sceptical of all metals. Dupont giving advice about teflon is like Monsanto telling you that GMO’s are good for you. Call me paranoid Jeff Chandler, I have been called worse!
