'Obama Phone' Store Opens in Livonia (MI)

A new store has opened in Livonia that serves as the Michigan headquarters for a distributor of the "Obama Phone." The Obama Phone is a refurbished cell phone with 250 monthly voice minutes provided free to low-income and disadvantaged families by the federal Lifeline Assistance program.

Bunch of crap of how the person who works for a living has to pay the way for a lazy person as they take from someone else. Anyone running in/out of that store there should be protested to ridicule for taking freebies that others paid for. Most people like to donate and help though this is just flat out ripping others off and making dependency to their government vs self reliance.

I clicked on street view for a look around the corner of 6 mile and Farmington and the first thing I see is a white stretch limo.

I can't honestly say I've been to Livonia, but I did find this: According to a 2010 American Community Survey, the median income for a household in the city was $65,391, and the median income for a family was $77,119. Males had a median income of $62,071 versus $42,083 for females. The per capita income for the city was $29,536. About 5.4% of families and 7.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.6% of those under age 18 and 3.8% of those age 65 or over.

A lot of Irish and Polish Catholics still there. That’s McCotter’s and Mike Cox’s home. It’s still one of few areas in Wayne County that often votes for a conservative (social more than fiscal)

Recently someone in our church heard that CHURCHES are also eligible for Obama phones. Apparently the rules are that the church can be issued one, but not a person like the pastor or minister.

In some ways that's better than my little town (township). We make less money but have fewer poor.

It's my understanding the Lifeline Assistance\Safelink program has drained the USF and it's now in the red.

"Congress has mandated that all telephone companies providing interstate service must contribute to the USF. Although not required to do so by the government, many all carriers choose to pass their contribution costs on to their customers in the form of a line item, often called the “Federal Universal Service Fee” or “Universal Connectivity Fee”."
