The Zebra mussels turned out not to be all bad.

They cleaned up Lake Erie by filtering its foul waters and they have a native species ... the Lakes Sheephead ... that loves them so much they have multiplied enough to restart a commercial fishery for them in the lake. Other species eat them, too. But the sheephead LOVES'em and is pretty tasty itself.

The sheephead is also known as freshwater drum, and colloquially as the "sewer inspector" because they can be found around warm water outlets along the shoreline. Bottom feeders, iow, and yes they love to eat mussels and the like. Nature restores the balance.

“But the sheephead LOVES’em and is pretty tasty itself.”

The sheephead in lake erie aren't the same as the saltwater variety and they are unfit as table-fare.

Nothing eats them but the gulls after you rip their gills out and toss them back.

I tried one once and can't think of a worse eating fish, mudfish perhaps would be a tie?
