April 6, 1969? The Drumbo archives say I was finishing a three night stand at Peobody's Warehouse in Virginia Beach with Headstone Circus, opening for The Whole Damned Family. Was I playing in an adult beverage establishment at the tender age of 14? You bet I was, lol. What a summer 1969 was! My folks shipped me off to Hargrave Military Accademy that June to "straighten me out", where I joined the ancient and accepted "Hargrave Combo" which we renamed "Third Stone From The Sun" and cranked out Hendrix and Cream tunes!

They started out as the Classics, a Four Seasons imitation group. Their first single, “Polyanna” was written by Joe South, sounded just like the Four Seasons, and bombed badly in 1966. They left Capitol Records for Imperial Records, slightly altered their name and took a totally different direction. This came in at #8 this week.
