and since the L.I.V. voters are now the majority, the tides turned against law-abiding gun owners.

Its now completely obvious, the goverment doesnt want citizens to be able to arm themselves against 'authority' thats quickly turning into tyranny.
If all the facts are presented, its almost impossible to come to any other conclusion.

It's safer to start with that as your default premise and only become convinced their motives are benign when there's actual proof of it. We're the ones that get the benefit of the doubt, not them.
