Rarely has the political class whipped itself into a lather that has abated so quickly.
The president has certainly done his part. He has held rallies. He has used children as props. He has held events with parents of the little victims of Newtown. He has shamed the nation for its alleged forgetfulness over the terrible events of that day and urged members of Congress to “join me in finishing the job — for our communities and, most importantly, for our kids.”
The needle of public opinion is moving the wrong way. CBS News found that support for stricter guns laws dropped from 57 percent to 47 percent, and CNN from 52 percent to 43 percent.
The headline on a CNN story on the latest trend in polling was titled, Polls Suggest Congress Might Have Waited Too Long on Gun Control. It has waited all of four months.
But the assault weapons ban has been deep-sixed by Democrats in the Senate. Same with any limit on the size of magazines. The argument now is all about increasing the reach of background checks...
The gun control debate has shown the president again to be hopelessly detached as a legislative mechanic and ineffectual as a shaper of public opinion.
The president’s push for new gun laws looks, at this juncture, like a complete fizzle. He has failed to sway red-state Democrats and failed to maintain the heightened public support for new gun control laws. The most concrete effect of his advocacy has been, if the anecdotal evidence is to be believed, to stoke increased gun purchases on fears that the government wants to ban guns. He set out to lead a great crusade for gun control and ended up the best friend the gun industry ever had.

Which explains why they *need* to move as fast as possible when an incident occurs.
If they wait to long logic and common sense overcome the passion of the moment.
Of course there is also the short attention span that the MSM has instilled into the American public to also consider.

I’m not convinced. The Brown Shirts had good success in New York, Connecticut, and Colorado. Any more such “victories” and we are undone.

Colorado...yeah, that bothers me. NY State and Connecticut, not so surprising. NYC dominates the Empire State such that Upstate may as well not exist, and Connecticut has become nothing more than a suburb of NYC.
Ditto with the 2nd Congressional District special race in IL. Even with Emperor Bloomie throwing his millions into the race, it was still not a surprise to anyone who knows that area (i.e. electing a white person wasn’t gonna happen). And in the end, the candidate’s mouthiness aside, the vote count didn’t change.
Mission accomplished-—divide the country more. To me that’s what this has been all about.

I was in a recently opened gun store in Northern California about three weeks ago. You could stir the customers with a stick. My wife ups and buys her first ever handgun, so I decide that it’s time to add to my “collection” and buy one too. They were so busy that we had to wait an hour to get to one of the two computers to electronically fill out the CADOJ paperwork. The store manager said that they were already selling 600 guns a month and had been open for less than two months! Here in CA more than 600,000 guns were purchased in the past year. The store owner also said that every time Obama opens his yap, they have another good day. To those who are decrying what’s happened in CT, NY and CO, I would say wait until next year. Those state legislatures are going to get their collective pee pees whacked by the voters or the courts, or both!
I think if the onerous laws in these states can’t be overturned either in the courts or by the legislators the manufacturers of the gun industry have to make a stand by leaving the state and refusing service/sales to the entire state until all citizens are allowed to own the same as LEO.
For myself, I may just not buy those weapons or supplies from those manufacturers on that basis alone.
They are literally having loads of cash thrown at them to move their operations and there is no reason not to take it...
1. The Constitution prohibits the Government from doing what some of these States have recently done.
2. States whose politicians have openly conspired to violate the civil rights of their citizens under color of authority are now States being run by outlaws.
3. Citizens need not obey the anti-gun laws that have been enacted.
4. Law enforcement officers need not enforce the laws.
5. District Attorneys need not prosecute people arrested for violations of these laws.
6. Citizens who serve on juries have a DUTY to NULLIFY these laws with consistent NOT GUILTY verdicts.
7. Citizens have a DUTY to remove from political office ALL persons who have voted for these laws, and all other persons from public office or public employment who enforce these laws.
Even if nothing comes up for a vote in the U.S. Congress gun owners are not going to forget. In addition to that I believe that 0bamaCare is going to be an even bigger negative for Dems by then and that's going to animate an even larger number of Americans than gun control has.
That’s why the Democrats need amnesty now. And the Republicans will help them. Then in 2014 the Republican Party will be extinguished.
Although gun ownership is protected by the 2nd A, the right to own ammo was not addressed by the recent USSC decisions and without ammo guns are useless for anything other than firewood or scrap metal. This makes me afraid that Obumma will get his way on the gun issue one way or another.
And the writer calls that anecdotal evidence (if it can be believed ). These people live in fantasy world. Even the percentages for gun control can’t be believed. It doesn’t jive with the amount of weapons bought. Look for a false flag soon. They smell blood in the water.
I coined the term "totalitarian anarchy" to refer to government in which those in power claim unlimited authority, but are not themselves bound the rule of law. Someone else suggested using "feudalism" instead; I'm not familiar enough with how things actually worked in feudal societies to know whether that's accurate or not.
Enough weapons have been bought to outfit the Chinese and Indian Armies. That’s hardly an overwhelming mandate for gun control.
