On HuffPost Live today, actor Jeremy Irons (Reversal Of Fortune, Die Hard With A Vengeance) blasted New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg over the proposed restrictions on soda, along with the smoking ban, describing himself as a "complete libertarian" and likening Bloomberg's policies to a "nanny state."
JEREMY IRONS: I'm a complete libertarian. I think it's very, very dangerous. I really mean that. I think the smoking ban is a tip of an iceberg of society -- the leaders of society telling us how to be. I think it's not their business. I think it is their business to tell us to care for and respect each other and each others happiness and each others health, and we are responsible enough to do that.

Irons always struck me as far and away one of Hollywood’s most likable and admirable workers in terms of his character and far and away one of the most talented and accomplished actors in the industry today. I think the fact that he has many libertarian leanings and does not see the threat Obama poses to them is an example of how severely distorted the propaganda is in that part of America and also an indicator that Conservatives and Right libertarians - indeed all non-far leftists - really need to step up their game and evaluate their efforts to get their message out. When I see well liked and respected public figures expressing libertarian or conservative or even conservative Christian values, I often wonder, wait a minute, are non-leftists [conservatives, conservative Christians, conservatarians,Reagan conservatives] doing everything they can to attract these figures to their side? usually the answer is no, not at all, not in any way shape or form.
